Vibration Damping & Shock Absorption
E-A-R Specialty Composites Summary

E-A-R- Specialty Composites

E-A-R has been providing advanced energy control materials for over 30 years. E-A-R manufactures the most complete line of noise, vibration and shock control products available from one supplier.

E-A-R is the only producer to offer damping, isolation, barrier, absorption, and cushioning materials for complex OEM design requirements.

Vibration Damping & Shock Absorption Solutions

E-A-R's proprietary high performance materials include the ISODAMP damping damped-isolation molding plastics, VersaDamp thermoplastics elastomers with adjustable damping and durometer, and the ISOLOSS family of broad temperature-range polyurethane elastomers, LS cellular, low compression-set foams, and the CONFOR family of ergonomic energy-absorbent foams.

The ISODAMP, ISOLOSS, and VersaDamp materials are highly damped elastomers, with extremely low rebound characteristics. This ensures extremely low amplification at resonance and repid settling to equilibrium after shock or vibration input.

The four standard material platforms are
  • ISODAMP C-1000 Series Elastomers
  • ISODAMP C-8002 Series Elastomers
  • VersaDamp 2000 Series TPE'S
  • ISOLOSS HD thermoset polyurethanes

Material Platform Applications

The ISODAMP C-1000 series thermoplastics are highly damped vinyl materials that exhibit extremely low amplification at resonance and quick return to system equilibrium after shock input. These materials are soft and pliable, yet strong and wear resistant.

3 formulations are engineered to work in discrete temperature ranges.
  • C-1002 from 13C to 41C
  • C-1005 from 27C to 54C
  • C-1100 from 35 C to 63C

The ISODAMP C-8002 series thermoplastic molding material are highly damped elastomers that provide the same benefit of the C-1000 series materials, but in a halogen-free formulation. They are also designed to be environmentally clean: providing excellent flammability performance (UL-94 V-O) without halogens, silicones, or metal oxides. This unique family of elastomers will meet most of the emerging "green" initiatives or specifications.

The VersaDamp 2000 series are olefinic dynamic vulcanizates. They typically are used to optimize damping performance, or durometer, or both. These materials eliminate the need to make trade-offs in damping and operating temperature range. They feature durometers ranging from 40 Shore A to 74 Shore A, and they have widely varying energy control capabilities.

The ISOLOSS LS foams are fine-celled, low compression-set, high density polyurethane foams. They provide excellent resistance to collapse and vibration isolation performance. ISOLOSS foams feature low out-gassing and good dimensional stability, with tight thickness tolerances. For these facts, LS foams are easily die cut and fabricated with pressure sensitive adhesives' (PSA's).
