Kiss Cutting FAQs

What is kiss-cutting and how is it different from die cutting?

Kiss-cutting cuts through the top material, or face stock, without cutting through the liner underneath. The part stays attached to its backing until it's peeled and applied. Die cutting, by contrast, cuts all the way through the material to create fully separated parts. If you need parts that stay in place on a liner for easy handling, kiss cutting is the better option. What materials can be kiss-cut?

Most pressure-sensitive adhesive materials with a liner or release sheet can be kiss-cut, including thermal, VHB tapes, films, and other adhesive-backed foams. Feasibility depends on thickness, rigidity, adhesive type, and material construction. Send us your spec sheet, and we'll confirm fit.
